Priscilla’s Perspective - Book Covers

In case you didn’t know, we at this school are no longer allowed to use “BookSox” or cloth book covers. You can imagine how disappointed both myself and my wallet were after shelling out almost $33.25 on Booksox, seven of them, something no one specifically told me I couldn’t use. So showing up on the first day of school and receiving my first book when I was informed my over $30 investment was banned from use. Why? It seems ridiculous, to me at least, that if your willing to pay $3-$5 for a “sock” to slip your book in instead of a paper envelope that rips nearly every time you take it in or out of your locker you should be able to right? But Instead of cloth, which obviously lasts longer, we are made to cover our books with paper-maché and scotch tape. On top of all this if we don’t take the time to re-cover our books every time this ineffective book cover rips, we get in trouble and are threatened with paying for the book anyway with or without damage. Thanks school system I’m now more concerned with keeping the how ever much this book costs money in my pocket than what information is actually contained in it.

However, in retrospect, after talking to Mrs. Martin, I learned that the book cover company (Walraven) gives us the paper ones for free and the cloth book covers, if not sized for the specific book, can actually tear apart the binding of the book resulting in you paying for them anyway! So in the end it may seem needless to fold helpless little trees over your books, but it will possibly save you a lot of cash in the long run.
